Letter #15

Dear _____,

What does a perfect day look like for you? Wait, excuse me – I’m trying not to use “perfect” as much because nothing is really perfect (I’m sure I’ll write about that topic later, cuz it’s a doozy). I think I mean to ask what does a good day look like for you? “Good” can be anything you make of it; for each person, it can mean whatever you want it to mean while also holding the potential of being just about anything you may want it to be. So… what is a good day to you?

Maybe it’s prefaced by a good night’s sleep. Maybe it’s those quiet moments while traveling, the world passing by on whatever journey you may be on, whether you’re walking, biking, driving – just as you are on your way. Maybe it’s completing that project you’ve wanted to get done for so long, the euphoria of accomplishment rushing through you with a sense of pride that you did it. Maybe it’s spending time with the people you love, enjoying your shared lives together and simply basking in the joy that you all get to exist at the same time as each other. Or maybe, after a day that is a little too hard or a bit too long, it’s coming home and getting cozy and enjoying your own company, away from the trials of the day and letting yourself melt into a pocket of quiet and rest. I could go on, but I fear I’d be writing all the possibilities forever.

Whatever your version of a good day is, I hope you have many. I hope each day has sprinklings of goodness in them, that there are glimpses of happiness and peace for you to find. I hope you find these little moments every day, especially in the middle of all the bad days that we inevitably experience every now and again. I hope that in those dark days, there’s a glimmer of good somewhere, however brief it may be. Something to make the burden a little easier to carry, to make those hard thoughts disappear for a bit and allow you to find some peace of mind.

I hope you have a good day – today, tomorrow, for the rest of your life ideally – because we all deserve that. Because sometimes those little moments of bliss we manage to find in our days are able to pick us up out of our lowest places. There’s something about the things that allow us to relax our shoulders, unclench our jaws, take that deep breath – there’s something in there, right? Something that reminds us… it’s going to be okay.

So yeah… if I’m trying to say anything with this letter, it’s that I hope you find the good in your day, always. No matter where you may be.
